Through the work of carefully trained volunteers from the Metro Richmond area, the Richmond CASA program serves as an extension of the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, providing a child advocate to facilitate placement in safe, permanent homes.
Richmond CASA is unique in its advocacy efforts in that volunteers are appointed by juvenile court judges who rely on them to act as their “eyes and ears” to ensure that the best interest of the child is achieved. Since it was established, Richmond CASA has advocated for over 10,000 children in the City of Richmond. Our program is the third largest of Virginia’s 27 CASA programs.
The commitment for a Richmond CASA volunteer is intense, but the impact on a child’s live is significant.
In 2007, our volunteers contributed 2426.38 hours, saving the City of Richmond over $45,000. CASA volunteers provided advocacy for 418 children to be placed in safe, permanent homes. Ten hours a month can mean a lifetime of safety and security for a child.
